Bourg médiéval, Moudon

Moudon, a medieval village built at the junction of the Broye and Mérine rivers, possessed major civilian buildings from the 13th to the 19th century. The Vieux-Moudon Museum and its scale model of the town narrate their long history.

Temple of St-Etienne, a Romanesque and Gothic church with its stalls and ancient organs (1764) that are still in use, is a stopover point of the Via Jacobi leading pilgrims to Saint James of Compostela.

At the crossroads of countless hikes, Moudon welcomes hikers to its swimming pool.

Eugène Burnand (Moudon 1850-1921), a naturalist painter of international renown, painted landscapes, portraits and religious scenes. His works, recovered from various collections, are shown in a museum.

Fromco SA matures Gruyère AOC cheese in huge molasse cellars. These are open to visitors, who are fascinated by 140,000 loaves of cheese produced in line with AOC norms.

Moudon is proud of its carnival (Brandons), its Popular Music Festival and its Open Air Drive-In.
